Basic symptoms of Leptospirosis

What is Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis is a waterborne bacteria, which affects humans and animals. 

This is caused by leptospira bacteria of the genus. It is transmitted through the urine of infected animals.

How do these bacteria come in contact

You are in a place where the animals roam more. There are more possibilities for their urine. 

If you come in contact with such a place, cracks and scratches can come up in your skin. 

These bacteria can enter your face through the ears, nose and genitals and wounds.

The problem increases in the rain

Due to waterlogging and running water during monsoon, this infection contaminates in water 

and hence the possibility of leptospirosis in monsoon is more than double.

What are the reasons of Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis is produced by bacteria called leptospype, 

which is found in the urine of infected animals and the transition can spread from animals to humans.

 Usually it is spread by rats, squirrels, buffaloes, horses, sheep, goats, pigs and dogs.

What are the Main symptoms

•  high fever which is usually between 100.4-104 degrees Fahrenheit.
• sudden headache and chills.
•  nause and vomiting.
• Especially the shin muscles and lower back pain.
•  conjunctivitis (burning in the eyes and red).

Severe problems include

• Meningitis-brain fever.
•  Excessive fatigue.
•  Deafness
•  Trouble breathing.

What is the precaution

Wear shoes, gloves, glasses, apron, masks etc.

Cover the skin lesions with waterproof dressing.

 Avoi going to the pools, ponds, rivers.

 Try to avoid getting into contaminated water or swimming.

Do not take bath with dirty water.

Wash the wounds and clean them regularly.

Avoid touching sick or dead animals.

Use clean water.

What is the treatment

Dialysis and strong antibiotic use are mainly used in its treatment process. Care and treatment of experts is important in case of kidney, liver or heart involvement. 

Dialysis is used in serious cases. Special measures should be taken if potassium levels are high.
