Distance and displacement difference

2.4 Distance and Displacement
(1) Distance :
It is the actual path length covered by a moving particle in a
given interval of time.
(i) Its a scalar quantity.
(ii) Dimension : [M0 L1 T0]
(iii) Unit : metre (S. I.)

(2) Displacement :
Displacement is the change in position vector
i.e., A
vector joining initial to final position.
(i) Displacement is a vector quantity
(ii) Dimension : [M0
L1 T0]
(iii) Unit : metre (S. I.)
(iv) If are the displacements of a body then the total (net)
displacement is the vector sum of the individuals.

velocity- rate of change of displacement is called vilocity and SI unit is m/s. it ia a vector quantity

speed- rate of change of distance is called speed its SI unit is m/s and is a schalar quantity

acceleration- rate of change of velocity is colled acceleration and its unit is m/s2  and it is a vector quantity
