According to a news agency, there has been an increase in the rate of obesity among women and men compared to a decade ago.  Earlier only 34 percent of men and 38 percent of women were suffering from obesity.  At the same time, these figures have increased significantly.

African-American women have the highest percentage of obesity at 45, with African-American men with obesity at 35 percent.

Obesity rate in America by American Centers for Disease Control 

According to the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Researchers, obesity among adults increased nearly 40 percent in 2015–2016 to 34 percent in 2007–2008.  This means that two out of every five adults struggle with obesity.

Meanwhile, about 18.5 percent of children were obese in 2015–2016, compared to 17 percent in 2007–2008.

The study revealed that obesity rates are likely to remain stable for the next 10 years in all age groups of adults in the US.

Researchers found that black young adults in the age group of 18 to 39 years, children between six and nine years of age, predominantly boys, and black children above ten years of age were found to have increased obesity rates.

Anirban Bose, a top researcher at the University of Chicago, said that in the last two decades, the unprecedented incidence of obesity in American adults is now stabilizing and is expected to remain stable for the next 10 years.

Researchers predict that mortality in the US decreases, if indeed there is a decrease in mortality in the US.  According to the data, if the age-specific mortality rate fell at a BMI-uncontrolled rate of 1.81 percent per annum, life expectancy at age 40 increased from 37.6 years in 1988 to 41.4 years in 2011. 

 If the death rate had fallen, a BMI controlled rate of 2.35 percent per year, at the age of 40 in 2011, life expectancy would have risen to 42.3 years.  This comparison suggests that increasing BMI reduced gains in life expectancy at age 40 during this period.
